Beyond Good and Evil 20th Anniversary Edition has received a US rating from the Entertainment Software Rating Board.
The ESRB rating was spotted by Twitter user @MACOS380 earlier today, and although the rating doesn't include any additional information about this so-called 20th Anniversary Edition, it does mention that it's coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series. An Xbox One version hasn't been mentioned, but since a PS4 version is being listed, it's likely that this is a mistake.
"This is an action-adventure game in which players assume the role of a reporter accompanied by a pig-like companion investigating a conspiracy on the planet of Hillys", the rating summary from the ESRB reads. "From a third-person perspective, players explore fantasy locations, take photos of evidence, solve puzzles, and fight robot and alien enemies. Combat is sometimes fast-paced, with players using melee weapons (e.g., staffs, torches) to strike stylized enemies that generally break apart or vanish into puffs of smoke. One boss battle depicts a squid-like alien stabbed in the eye, with yellow-green splatter effects."
As said, no additional details about this re-release have been included, but if this rating is correct, we're likely looking at an updated version of Ubisoft's 2003 action-adventure. The game already received a digital-only HD remaster for Xbox and PlayStation in 2011. As most of you will know, Ubisoft has been planning a sequel to the 2003 original since 2017. Beyond Good & Evil 2 was announced during Ubisoft's 2017 E3 press conference, but since then, series creator Michel Ancel retired from the industry in 2020.
