As is made pretty clear early on in Baldur's Gate 3, ceremorphosis is bloody horrible. As if becoming a Mind Flayer wasn't bad enough, the process contorts your body in such inhuman ways that it sends a shiver down your spine just thinking about it. That's if the idea of having a tadpole inserted through your eye wasn't enough to turn up your lunch.
To get the message across, many of your companions will refer to the process in Act 1, sometimes in graphic detail. It's effective, making it clear that you and your party need to get the tadpoles removed ASAP. However, Larian Studios apparently felt that this didn't go far enough, as they've just added a horrific ceremorphosis cinematic at the very beginning of the game.

When you start a new game on the nautiloid, it's possible to hit some controls and cause an unfortunate victim to undergo ceremorphosis. The game accomplishes this by having the person disappear in a cloud of smoke, reemerging as a Mind Flayer once it passes. The implication here is terrifying, but not awful enough for Larian's taste, it would seem.
Now, with Patch 3 installed, the smoke will take a little longer to fill the whole pod. This means that you see a few more seconds of the transformation process, and it's enough to hammer home why you'd never want this to happen to you. You know, if that wasn't clear enough already.
