Players of may currently find themselves wanting a real incentive to battle other people. Right now, the reasons to battle against other players are lacking due to the minimal rewards you receive for doing so. Despite the success of the game, if they want battles to continue between real people, they should at least make the stakes as high as they are for the solo battles.
Despite new decks in online tournaments in turning heads, this is mostly done by outsiders who cannot offer as much in the way of in-game rewards. Currently, the only reason to play a real person is 15 XP, which is not enough to spend a lot of time doing so. Getting players more involved on the part of the game itself might require a little more incentive to play.
The main issue with battling others is that currently, playing the solo battles against the AI provides a better incentive to play than against a real person. Each time a player defeats one of the AI decks, they receive XP as well as other rewards like Shop Tokens and even Hourglasses. There are also mini-objectives to complete in each battle, which give players more rewards and reasons to replay those scenarios.
Pokemon TCG Pocket has reignited the general public's interest in Pokemon trading cards, and it could mean a classic title could make a return.
That is not even taking into account the solo events that players can participate in. The current Venusaur event in gives players the same kind of rewards the first time they win, but it also includes chance rewards that give players Promo Cards, Shinedust, and Shop Tokens. You can receive these chance rewards every time you replay the event. This makes it well worth it to play these scenarios over and over again while battling a real person takes less priority.
