Blizzard has released a new account security blog post which details a transition from the soon to be removed standalone Authenticator to the integrated Battle.net Mobile App! The integrated Battle.net app is primarily social, and does not contain mission boards or other game features of the WoW Companion app. While most players are already using this extra layer of protection and may have already moved onto the integrated mobile app, the separate and standalone Authenticator will soon be removed from the app store in favor of using the Battle.net Mobile App universally.
Otherwise than that switch, authenticating should continue to work much in the same way as before though — authenticating log-in, unlocking accounts, resetting passwords, and more. As an additional bonus, players who haven't already added an authenticator to their accounts will receive the Core Hound Pup battle pet and four extra primary bag slots for all non-Classic WoW characters once they've set it up.
