The customization of companions is not possible in the game, with the obvious exception being their outfit changes through gear. Even if you cannot change their companion’s appearance at will, they can nudge Shadowheart into a makeover.

Shadowheart can change her hairstyle, notably losing the bangs and altering her hair color from black to silver following important events in Act 2. These events are related to the Nightsong quest in . Depending on what transpires within Shadowfell, the beloved cleric companion will make some big changes to her life – and that involves the reflection of that on her appearance. It is possible to make her stay the same, but that involves going down a darker and much more evil path.

Triggering Shadowheart’s hairstyle change in depends on whether you allow her to kill or spare Nightsong withing Shadowfell. If you enabled Shadowheart to kill Nightsong or even allowed Balthazar to take her away to Ketheric Thorm, then the change will not happen – in fact, if Nightsong is taken away, Shadowheart leaves your party permanently. To make her change her hairstyle in Act 3, Shadowheart must spare Nightsong’s life in Act 2.
You can nudge Shadowheart into sparing Nightsong. She already knows that this is the right thing to do, but it is more easily done if you have a good approval rate with the character.
