Are you less satisfied with Netflix? You're not alone. A new survey finds that user satisfaction with the streaming service has fallen in the past year.
The findings come from research firm Whip Media, which polled 2,011 US consumers for their views on the major streaming services. It found that Netflix ranks sixth in satisfaction, down from fourth place in last year’s survey.
The newest results show the streaming giant dropping behind Paramount+ and Apple TV+. That said, 77% of the survey respondents are still satisfied with Netflix. Nevertheless, it represents a “continuation of a three-year downtrend in overall satisfaction,” Whip Media notes.
In contrast, Max (formerly HBO Max) holds the top spot, with an 88% satisfaction ranking. Meanwhile Hulu, which is about to merge with Disney+, came in second with an 87% rating.
The survey was conducted in July, when Netflix was cracking down on account sharing, which may have caused some users to sour on the service. In addition, Whip Media's survey found that many US consumers no longer view Netflix as a must-have streaming service.
“More significantly, the platform’s #1 rank in the category of ‘indispensability’ also weakened for a third year,” Whip Media adds. “We asked respondents, ‘if you could only have one streaming service, which would it be?’ In 2023, 27% chose Netflix as the one service they would keep compared to 41% in 2021.”
It doesn’t help that Netflix is preparing another price hike, according to The Wall Street Journal, which could further drag down the company’s satisfaction rating.
