Forthright Entertainment has announced that Soma Games’ The Lost Legends of Redwall: The Scout Anthology is prepped to re-release consoles on December 1, 2023. It’s coming to PS5, Xbox X|S, and PC.
I kind of had to do some digging on this one since the press release omits certain things, like the fact that this is a compilation of three previously released games. The first episode of The Lost Legends of Redwall: The Scout dropped back in 2018, with the other two following in 2021. Only the first act landed on Xbox One and PS4, with the others arriving on PC. This point is moot, however, because they’ve been delisted from all platforms. Going forward, this is going to be the only way to experience them.
I missed them the first time, which is funny because on my wishlist of games I want to see is a decent game based on Brian Jacques’ Redwall book series. In my youth, I was an avid fan of the series and read through a good chunk of them. If you’re unfamiliar, they’re essential fantasy novels, but instead of Elves and Orcs, it’s mice and rats. They’re joyful and well-written books, even if they tend to be pretty formulaic.
So far, it looks… okay. I don’t think the games were exactly well-received the first time around, so hopefully, Soma Games did something with the feedback they received. I don’t think the trailer is doing it any favors. Usually, trailers are really heavily edited to show only the most polished slices of gameplay, and this one looks pretty raw. It’s a linear, action-adventure narrative told in three parts. I find it funny that it says, “An adventure for all the family,” directly after showing what looks like conflagrated rats.
