Joe Russo, half of the directorial team behind the record-breaking Avengers: Endgame, has revealed which MCU Phase 4 movie is his favorite so far. Alongside brother Anthony, the Russo brothers made their Marvel debut in 2014, helming Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The pair returned to direct the next outing for the star-spangled superhero in Captain America: Civil War before embarking on the ambitious crossover event Avengers: Infinity War and its sequel,Endgame. The enormous financial success of their contributions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe has led to the Russo brothers becoming the second most commercially successful directors of all time after Steven Spielberg, with both Infinity War and Endgame grossing over $2 billion at the global box office.
Following the first three phases of the MCU, now collectively known as the «Infinity Saga,» Phase 4 has seen the franchise moving forward in various directions. As well as introducing new heroes into the pantheon, such as Shang-Chi and the Eternals, it has also featured new television series set alongside, and as sequels to, the movies in Phase 4, such as the Emmy-winning WandaVision and Loki. But perhaps most notably, this era for the MCU has seen the series exploring the enormous backdrop of the multiverse. Spider-Man: No Way Home saw different villains and Spider-Men alike from across several dimensions bleeding into the cinematic universe, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness sees the titular sorcerer experiencing the full extent of the dangers that it poses. And with so many MCU projects set to release this year alone, Phase 4 is still far from over.
