Ubisoft's open-world Avatar is coming this winter.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora received a new story trailer as part of Sony's latest PlayStation State of Play, showing off more of what players can expect from Ubisoft's upcoming open-world FPS.
The trailer spotlights some of the unique ways players will be able to roam Pandora, such being able to leap onto the back of a flying banshee during free fall or ride a direhorse across the game's stunning vistas. It also sets the stakes, as players step into the shoes of a Na'vi who was abducted by humans from the Resource Development Administration at a young age and trained in their ways, only to be rescued 15 years later. From there players will learn about Pandora, Na'vi culture, and what's at stake as the forces of the RDA look to pillage Pandora for their own selfish needs.
Combat is a big part of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora as well, and the game's new trailer shows there will be plenty of ways to fight back against the humans looking to claim Pandora as there own. From bow and arrow to rocket launchers, players will have quite the arsenal at their disposal, with a mixture of high-tech human weaponry alongside simpler but still deadly Na'vi weapons.
It all looks more than a little like Far Cry: Pandora, with Ubisoft looking to have taking a «if it's ain't broke, don't fix it» approach to creating an open-world shooter based on James Cameron's film franchise. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora releases December 7 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The PS5 version will receive free DLC cosmetic pack at launch, something those playing on Xbox or PC will have to pay for.
