Deck13 had promised new content and enhancements for its action RPG Atlas Fallen, and the German studio has now shared more details. The free Reign of Sand update is slated to launch on August 6, adding new voice acting by the talented Ben Starr (who played the protagonist in Final Fantasy XVI), a new area, new enemies, 25 new Essence Stones, new progression mechanics, quality of life improvements (chiefly to the camera, but also balancing and onboarding), the much-requested New Game Plus mode and a new difficulty mode called Nyaal's Nightmare.
Jan Klose, Deck13's Creative Director on Atlas Fallen, stated:
Our team was grateful for the opportunity to further develop Atlas Fallen and to bring a vastly updated version to the players. We listened to the feedback and made a whole series of improvements that we hope will make players enjoy the game even more.
Ahmed Boukhelifa, Deputy Chief Executive Officer - PULLUP ENTERTAINMENT STUDIOS, added:
Reign of Sand reflects our dedication to keeping Atlas Fallen a dynamic and captivating experience for all players. This free update is a testament to our commitment, offering substantial new content that both returning and new players will enjoy.
The game launched in August 2023 to underwhelming commercial performance and mixed reviews. Francesco De Meo wrote in Wccftech's review (7/10):
With its unique premise and setting, Atlas Fallen could have been one of the best action games of the year, but its mediocre combat system, dull open-world areas, and lack of interesting characters drag the experience down. The full package ends up being just a decent game for those willing to look past its most critical shortcomings.
