With the Xbox June Update, Microsoft has finally made it so that Xbox consoles can remember Wi-Fi networks between connections, saving network passwords so you don’t need to type them in each and every time.
The update also brings new home screen customisation options, the ability to manage subscriptions on the console, and some reliability improvements for controllers.
While changing the network connection of a console is generally a rare occurrence, for anyone that did find the need to do so, it was always a chore to retype a password when getting back to a previous location – perhaps you needed to switch from Ethernet to Wi-Fi temporarily, or were taking your console to a friend’s house for a local gaming session. Xbox consoles can now remember up to 10 wireless networks.
Microsoft is also making managing subscriptions much more user accessible, making them viewable and changeable directly on the console, instead of forcing users to go to a web browser.
And rounding things out, you’ve got a new option for the home screen, so you can have a dynamic background as the default, which then switches to game art as you select from the recently played list. Here’s the example with the Hellblade 2 dynamic background when hovering over the Accessories app, and then Minecraft Dungeons if that is highlighted. It’s a small, but welcome improvement.
Here’s the details from Microsoft:
Personalize Your Home Backgrounds Even More
Do you have a favorite dynamic background? Or do you prefer to look at game art? Before today’s rollout, you had to decide whether you wanted to enjoy that dynamic background vs. rotating through all the game art. Now you can mix and match – no need to compromise. You can find the new options under Settings > General > Personalization > My Background > Show selected game art.
Want even more options? There’s also a new setting that lets you adjust your dynamic background color without changing your profile color.
