After everything that’s happened with the Atari VCS and the brand itself, it’s easy to forget that Atari is in fact a game publisher again. However, with the company’s reveal of Mr. Run and Jump today, perhaps it’ll be a bit more difficult from now on. The original was made for the Atari 2600 back in 2021, but this new version appears to play like a thoroughly modern creation.
Mr. Run and Jump is looking like it’s an action-platformer of a mold similar to the likes of Super Meat Boy or Celeste, but with additional emphasis on speed. Judging from the trailer above, it appears that players will have the ability to run, jump, dash and roll through each stage. Additional information provided by Atari further clarifies that each stage will contain collectibles to find and pick up, and said stages will be hosted in six different worlds. There is also apparently a story behind it all and a time trial mode waiting after all is said and done.
Atari has not revealed a specific release date for Mr. Run and Jump yet, but it has said that those interested will be able to find it on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch and Atari VCS once it does come out sometime later this year.
