Open world epic Ghost of Tsushima sold over 1 million copies in Japan, PlayStation has confirmed. The story of surviving samurai Jin Sakai first launched on PS4 in 2020, and around a year later it was re-released on PS5 as Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut. This sales total takes both versions into account.
It's an impressive figure, because outside of juggernaut properties like Monster Hunter, PlayStation titles don't necessarily sell a whole lot of units in Japan these days. All in all, Ghost of Tsushima has sold roughly 10 million copies worldwide, making it one of Sony's most successful first-party forays of last decade or so.
Anyway, Japan's praise for Ghost of Tsushima has been well documented up until this point. The action title sold well right off the bat back in 2020, and numerous Japanese game developers spoke out about how much they enjoyed playing it. Most notably, ex-Yakuza / Like a Dragon producer Toshihiro Nagoshi and Final Fantasy XVI producer Naoki Yoshida both heaped praise on Sucker Punch's new property.
