Forever Entertainment has today confirmed it's porting the Front Mission 1st: Remake to PS5, PS4 after a Trophy listing leaked its existence, releasing later this month on 30th June 2023. The tactical RPG returns with a modern mode said to sport improved controls, and the soundtrack has also been orchestrated.
«With dozens of characters to meet, its mature story, and non-Manichean protagonists, Front Mission is the classic of a tactical Japanese RPG genre, finally available worldwide,» the PS Store listing reveals. While it lacks a price at the time of writing, the Nintendo Switch version goes for £31.49/$34.99 on the eShop. It's not known yet whether the PS5, PS4 editions will come with any further graphical improvements over the base Nintendo Switch remake.
While the improved visuals supposedly give Front Mission a much-welcome facelift, our sister publication Nintendo Life slammed the game for tedious gameplay and inaccurate weapons. «Unless you’re a die-hard fan of the original or the TRPG genre in general, you’re probably safe to give this one a miss or just lower the difficulty of the combat to enjoy the story. Despite the strengths of the setting and the characters, the gameplay becomes more frustrating than fun and won’t keep most players engaged past the first few hours,» it concluded in a 5/10 rated review.
Forever Entertainment is also enhancing Front Mission 2 and Front Mission 3, first for Nintendo Switch once again, so some gameplay improvements may be packaged with those sequels.
