Asus is using Gamescom in Germany to show off three new gaming monitors, including the world’s first 32-inch 4K monitor built with a QD-OLED panel.
The PG32UCDM appears to pack Samsung’s second-generation QD-OLED panel in a 32-inch monitor for the first time. The result promises to beam vibrant colors and deeper blacks over rival OLED display technology.
The other standout feature is support for a 240Hz refresh rate, along with the 4K screen resolution. “Currently, we plan to make this monitor available for sale early in 2024,” Asus added, but there’s no word on price.
The second product is the PG34WCDM, a 34-inch curved monitor that sports an ultrawide aspect ratio. However, the product only uses a normal OLED panel that comes at a lower 1440p resolution. But on the plus side, the monitor still supports a 240Hz refresh rate while offering a higher max brightness at 1,300 nits.
The third monitor is a 49-inch ultrawide monitor called the PG49WCD. It too features a QD-OLED panel with a 5,120-by-1,440 resolution, which is close to 4K. Asus plans on selling the product early in Q4 for $1,499. Other features include a 144Hz refresh rate and a 1,000 nits in max brightness.
Although OLED monitors can beam stunning black colors, the screens can also suffer burn-in problems over prolonged use. In response, Asus built an expanded heatsink in the back of the monitors to help prevent the panel from degrading over time. In addition, a graphene film has been fitted behind the OLED panel to further enhance the monitors' cooling abilities.
“The lower operating temperatures offered by this cooling solution allow the display to produce and sustain high peak brightness levels,” Asus adds.
All three monitors also contain a USB-C port
