At today's Ubisoft Forward event, we got a look at Assassin's Creed's first venture into VR, Assassin's Creed: Nexus. Along with a glimpse of first-person assassination gameplay, we also learned details about the game's three-pronged story featuring familiar Assassin's Creed characters Ezio, Kassandra, and Connor.
Assassin's Creed: Nexus is a new Assassin's Creed adventure being developed for the Meta Quest 2, and incorporates familiar assassination gameplay from previous games, but in first-person VR. Players will be able to use weapons such as the hidden blade, sword, smoke bombs, bow, and others by physically going through the motions of using them.
Aside from combat, Nexus will also allow players to perform stealth gameplay and parkour, as well as the iconic leap of faith. Nexus takes place across multiple cities with open structures, with objectives that can be approached in a myriad of different ways whether climbing, parkour, or fighting through enemies.
Narratively, Nexus ties together the stories of three familiar assassins: Ezio from Assassin's Creed 2, Connor from Assassin's Creed 3, and Kassandra from Odyssey. The trio are tied together by a modern day scenario where a protagonist tries to stop a plot by series antagonist Abstergo involving memory manipulation. The three stories take place in familiar locations, but are completely new adventures.
Finally, Ubisoft outlined some new features aimed at helping players better enjoy Assassin's Creed gameplay in VR. These include teleport locomotion for climbing and parkour, vignetting for peripheral vision blocking, and other settings to help with fear of heights.
