The newly announced HD versions of Pikmin and Pikmin 2 will be getting a physical release.
As announced during the latest Nintendo Direct presentation, both classic GameCube games have been upscaled to HD andare available to download digitally today at a price of $29.99 / £24.99 each.
However, Nintendo has also announced that both games will released in a physical edition on September 22.
The collection, titled Pikmin 1 + 2, will contain both titles in one package.
“Reintroduce yourself to the plant-like Pikmin and strategic gameplay that this charming series is rooted in,” Nintendo’s description of both games reads.
“From finding a way home to collecting treasure, Olimar (plus Louie in the Pikmin 2 game) must partner with a parade of Pikmin to survive the harshest of conditions.
“Both games support optional motion controls for more options when guiding your floral friends.”

Originally released on the GameCube in 2001 and 2004 respectively, Pikmin and Pikmin 2 were later re-released on the Wii as part of a series called New Play Control, which added motion controls (specifically, the ability to use the Wii’s pointer to aim Pikmin).
It appears that the new HD Switch versions of the games are based on the New Play Control versions, since they also give players the option to use Joy-Con motion controls should they prefer.
“Tasks like throwing, separating and swapping between Pikmin, as well as swarming ship parts or enemies, are all easier,” Nintendo’s description reads.
“You can also rewind to previous days and replay them to correct any mistakes made.”
