With ChatGPT gearing to launch its latest update, major tech companies are working on their set of language models to compete against the giant. ChatGPT has gathered a lot of attention over the past few months, allowing users to receive somewhat accurate responses based on their prompts. While it is all the hype these days, the latest suggests that Apple is working on its own ChatGPT-like language model that it can embed within Siri.
At its annual AI summit, Apple detailed developers and executives about the future of artificial intelligence and how it would move forward. While intrinsic details are scarce. we are now hearing that the company is heavily invested in the idea of a leading language model and how it can benefit from it with respect to Siri (via the New York Times).
Apple is reportedly testing language model concepts on a weekly basis in an attempt to follow the likes of OpenAI's highly successful endeavor. Currently speaking, Apple's virtual assistant lacks a lot behind Google Assistant and Amazon's Alexa. Siri falls short of context compared to Google Assistant and the virtual assistant could highly benefit from Apple's research. Siri does best what it is designed to do but if you are looking for actual help, the others are far superior.
We have recently heard that a developer managed to add ChatGPT to the Apple Watch. While the addition comes in the form of an app, it makes sense on the wearable. If Apple integrates something similar to Siri, it would offer a giant leap for the virtual assistant. Additionally, Siri on the iPhone, iPad and even Mac could offer major assistance to users which is currently not possible.
