Regarding market exposure, AMD has been on the back foot compared to its arch-rival NVIDIA, mainly because it was a bit late in offering "competitive" AI solutions to potential customers, especially in China.

However, AMD was previously rumored to have been developing an AI solution for the Chinese markets that would comply with US regulations. Still, it seems that they haven't managed to do so, as a report by Bloomberg states that officials have warned AMD that their new AI GPU won't receive the green light from the US government.

According to the report, the new AI GPU developed by AMD was called the Instinct MI309 due to being a cut-down variant to meet the TPP requirements. Moreover, this is the first time we have seen the Instinct MI309 surfacing, hence, we aren't sure about the specifications it would come with onboard. However, judging by the fact that the US has set performance caps of 4800 TPP (Total Processing Power), the Instinct MI309 might be lying somewhere around this region, which is why the US approval isn't expected with it.

Now that AMD has faced rejection on its Instinct MI309 AI GPU, it will be interesting to see what sort of response we see directly from the firm. Still, we might likely see a more stripped-down model by the firm, given that they are dedicated to a dominant entry into the Chinese markets. However, the actual curiosity lies in how the consumers will react to these China-compliant offerings, given that they have already decided to prioritize in-house solutions such as those from Huawei.
