If you were eager to try out Alan Wake 2, then you might already have a new heads-up of where the developers took inspiration from. The fanbase has incredibly anticipated this upcoming installment of the Alan Wake franchise. It took several years to get a full-fledged sequel out into the marketplace. This October, we’ll finally get to dive back into this twisted world and see where Alan has been and what he’s up to after all these years. But while we still have a little bit of a wait on our hands before we can get into the game, a new interview from the game director, Kyle Rowley, might help offer some insight into what players can expect.
We knew beforehand that this next game installment for the Alan Wake franchise would lean heavily on the survival horror genre. While the first installment wasn’t free from horror, it was an action title with horror elements sprinkled throughout it. That’s not going to be the case for this next game, so it makes sense that the developers gravitated toward some past iconic franchises. Thanks to Gamesradar, we’re finding out that Kyle Rowley spoke with Edge magazine. During their conversation, it was revealed that Kyle and the development team took up with the Resident Evil games when getting inspiration for their current project.
In particular, the director made a note of using the camera perspective that Resident Evil was known for. It allowed players to feel claustrophobic, and that alone is enough to prompt them to start feeling that their protagonist is far more vulnerable. You can never be certain what to expect in the game, which can lead to some intense, frightening fights.
