God of War Ragnarok may have been the end for the series’ Norse saga, but it’s obviously far from the end for God of War as a whole. Given the critical and commercial success the series has continued to enjoyed, it’s safe to assume that it won’t be too long before developer SIE Santa Monica Studio gets started on whatever comes next for the franchise. In fact, work on that may already be underway.
That’s as per multiple job ads recently posted by the studio, with listings for combat-related positions in particular indicating that the series’ next instalment is in the works. Under their “requirements” section, listings for Combat Designer, Sr Combat Designer, and Sr Combat Designer (Companions) all mention that applicants “must have knowledge of God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarok“, suggesting that the next God of War game could potentially be in the works.
With God of War Ragnarok not even a year old yet, details on the series’ next step are scant, though with last year’s game having been the final instalment in its Norse saga, it’s safe to assume the next instalment will be headed to a new mythological setting. Shortly after Ragnarok’s launch, director Eric Williams also said it was unlikely to get DLC, so Santa Monica Studio’s next God of War project is, in all likelihood, an entirely new game.
