In a new video showcase from developer Saber Interactive, has revealed the unique way in which players can silence the sound of their steps in-game by using sandbags. According to the developers, players can lay sand down at their feet to muffle the sounds of their footsteps, which will help prevent detection from s terrifying audio-focused creatures. As explained in the video, sandbags will be few and far between, perhaps indicating some level of survival-horror resource management.
The video also reveals distraction items can be launched in order to divert the attention of enemies, including bottles like in games. Distraction-based mechanics to avoid detection from enemies are very common in stealth games, but sandbags are a very unique way to introduce noise muffling as another audio-focused option to escape. The unique way of placing sand at the character's feet ensures that not even the loudest of floors and echoey rooms draw unwanted attention.
This is not the only feature that will help players make it out alive, as the use of a phonometer also allows them to track how much sound they make as they traverse the game. This tool can also measure ambient noise from the world around them, which in turn allows players to make careful decisions as to whether or not the ambient noise is enough to drown out the sound of their actions.
