There are 69 different shells to collect in. When the game opens, the conflict starts, and one of the driving factors of the plot is that Kril has his Shell repossessed and longs to get it back. From then on, Kril must travel the ocean, equipping anything he can find until he can earn his original Shell back.
While Shells in are plentiful,many are specific to designated areas, with some also being available for purchase at Shellfish Desires in New Carcinia. Each Shell has its own stats and abilities to aid Kril in his journey. While there are arguably some that are better than others, many of them can also be situational.
The Coconut Shell, while not one of the best overall shells, is one of the best early-game Shells players can obtain. It can be found in the first area, The Shallows, more specifically in the Slacktide area. This Shell offers a defense of 35 with decent durability. While it is a large Shell, which means slower movement, it is also the first Shell Kril will encounter that offers the Rollout ability, something that can help cross large distances quickly and is a great way to take care of enemies.
While exploring The Unfathom, Kril will be forced to explore a long stretch of the ocean without access to a Moon Snail Shell. This, unfortunately, means no use of his Shell Insurance, meaning that if he loses the Shell he walks in with, he will be forced to use what's available. In this case, one of the better options out there is the Service Bell. It hasgood defenses and a +2 MSG stat and features the Ring-A-Ding ability, which allows it to interrupt enemies surrounding Kril and stun them momentarily. This ability can be incredibly helpful, especially in this dark area, where players will likely be more on edge.
Similarly to the Service Bell, the Mouse Shell is another item found in The Unfathom and serves as a great option. While it offers a little less defense and is larger than the Service Bell, it provides the ability Shellshock, which allows Kril
