There are eight total adaptations in , an adorable «shoals-like» from developer Aggro Crab, and each one of them makes Kril stronger in a unique way. Some of these abilities come from defeating story bosses, so they're impossible to miss, but others are hidden behind secret interactions or optional bosses that inhabit the reefs. Finding them all is tricky, but will keep Kril fully equipped to get his home back.
These abilities are essential to gameplay, and do make some fights easier, but if you still find yourself struggling, maybe check out some assist settings the devs have provided. Like Shell Spells,Adaptations cost Umami Charges to cast. You can use some of these abilities to unlock new areas in the world and others to give yourself an edge against tough bosses. No matter how you use these aquatic abilities, they're an essential tool in your fight against the Gunk.
You won't unlock Adaptations until you beat Duchess Magista in Fort Slacktide, so you'll have to clear much of the Shallows with only your fork and Shell Spells. Once you've beaten the Duchess, you'll unlock your first adaptation and be on your way to becoming the most powerful crab you can be. Head west in The Sands Between until you reach the stone spires with many Bobbit Traps buried in the ground. Climb your way up to the top of the hill to find the Adaptation.
