Director Zack Snyder has posted a sweet tribute to Henry Cavill's Superman in a new BTS image from Man of Steel. Cavill first appeared as Superman in 2013's Man of Steel, which was directed by Snyder, marking the beginning of the current DCEU at Warner Bros. The film grossed $668 million worldwide and solidified Cavill as the new embodiment of the classic character, whom he would play for two more outings.
Cavill put on the cape again for Snyder in 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which brought in Ben Affleck's Batman and Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman, acting as a pseudo adaptation of Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns comics while building toward the first-ever live-action Justice League film. While Batman v Superman was a box-office success, it was panned critically, causing WB to get cold feet over Snyder's vision for the planned Justice League follow-up films, which would also feature Cavill's Superman. After a family tragedy during production, Snyder stepped away from Justice League, which prompted WB to have Joss Whedon reshoot and restructure it, delivering a box-office dud.

Fortunately, fan support and the need for content at HBO Max helped bring about Zack Snyder's Justice League, the four-hour definitive cut of his vision, which featured more of Cavill's Superman than the theatrical version. Cavill has been absent from the role ever since Justice League was released in 2017, although he's continually said he'd love to return to the role. In a sweet post celebrating Man of Steel's 9-year anniversary, Snyder posted an image to Vero of the two on set, saying: «My Superman past present and future» with the hashtag #Supermanday. Check out
