New updates have emerged about Warner Bros.'s upcoming Superman movie reboot that is in the works. Superman is one of the DC Comics heroes featured multiple times in live-action across TV and film. For several decades, the story of the Man of Steel has been told in different variations, with many actors bringing the iconic hero to life. Henry Cavill was the latest actor to portray Superman as part of the DCEU on the big screen, from Man of Steel toZack Snyder's Justice League.
Over the last few years, there has been a lot of restructuring at DC Films and Warner Bros., as the studio still works on having an interconnected universe. However, in recent years, Warner Bros. has also begun to play around with the idea of tackling standalone universes, like Joker and The Batman. As Cavill's Superman future remains in limbo, the studio looks to do a reboot focused on a Black Man of Steel.

Following the completion of the Warner Bros. Discovery merger, the new version of the studio is evaluating where to go with their DC properties, including Superman. There have been few updates about the Black Superman project, but Variety has provided new details about the DC reboot. According to the trade, Warner Bros. Discovery has still not finalized any concrete plans for the Superman reboot, despite a script from author Ta-Nehisi Coates.
The new Superman film was first announced in February 2021, with executive producer J.J. Abrams attached. While Abrams won't direct it, screenwriter and author Coates was tapped to pen a screenplay for the Black Superman-focused reboot.
