Apple is a little late to adopt generative AI technology, while the company claims it has been working on its iteration for years. The company is rumored to introduce the technology next year with the launch of iOS 18. The AI features will roll out gradually but could be unveiled at its WWDC 2024 event. It is now being reported that some features with generative AI capabilities will be available exclusively for iPhone 16 models.
Apple will announce the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models next year in September, which could host some of the exclusive features from Apple's efforts on generative AI. Only iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models can perform on-device processes. It is unclear if there are hardware limitations or if Apple offers the best for its latest devices.
The iPhone 15 Pro models are powered by Apple's A17 Pro chip based on TSMC's 3nm fabrication. Next year, the company could use the same chip manufacturing process with A18 Pro but could switch from N3B to N3E nodes for better yields. Similarly, the standard iPhone 16 models are rumored to use the same technology. Henceforth, Apple will offer exclusive generative AI features on both models of the iPhone 16.
According to a Revegnus on X, Apple will offer cloud-based AI features to existing models of the iPhone, which are compatible with iOS 18. However, only the upcoming iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models can process on-device AI features. It was recently reported that Apple ordered TSMC to design new A-series chips for the iPhone 16 series based on the 3nm N3E process. The new A18 Pro chips will potentially be Apple's requirement to use generative AI features on the iPhone 16.
It was recently covered that Apple is internally testing a new capacitive button for all
