Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was the best-selling game in the US in October, while PS5 was once again the leading console platform.
Sony’s PS5 exclusive claimed the top spot on the monthly software sales chart ahead of Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros. Wonder, which was released on the same day for Switch.
According to Circana (formerly NPD Group) analyst Mat Piscatella, Spider-Man 2 is the fourth best-selling game of 2023 year-to-date based on its launch month dollar sales, which exceeded those of September 2018’s Spider-Man by a double-digit percentage.
While Mario Bros. Wonder charted at No.2, this was based on the game’s physical sales alone, as Nintendo doesn’t provide digital sales data.
Spider-Man 2 sold over five million copies globally during its first 11 days of availability, Sony claimed last week.
According to Nintendo’s internal estimates, Mario Bros. Wonder sold 4.3 million units globally in its first two weeks, making it the fastest-selling Super Mario game ever.
Other new entries on the US sales chart for October included Assassin’s Creed Mirage at No.3, UFC 5 at No.7, NHL 24 at No.8, Sonic Superstars at No.9, Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol.1 at No.12, Forza Motorsport at No.17, and Lords of the Fallen (digital sales not included) at No.20.
It also released at the tail end of the tracking period, and with its nominations for end of year awards, we could see a boost and/or strong legs into November and December, too early to say.
