Bandai Namco’s Tekken 8 has much going for it, from the Story Mode (with story digests for past titles to catch players up) to the new Arcade Quest and Super Ghost Battles. However, it also features a returning feature – My Replay and Tips – with significant changes to help players improve.
Introduced in Season 2 of Tekken 7, My Replay and Tips will look at your battle replays and provide tips on what you could do differently. However, as Tekken 8 director Kohei Ikeda told VG247, “There’s a lot of effort involved in doing that and a lot of jargon and technical data that novice or even intermediate players aren’t going to be able to parse at a glance.
“We wanted to make that play cycle less intensive. Having advice and being able to practice your options on the spot… That’s probably the most effective and optimal way to improve as a player. And so, we’re hoping people will use this tool efficiently to get better in their real matches.”
Instead of only offering tips, My Replay and Tips in Tekken 8 allows for trying alternatives and other inputs in real-time for ten seconds. Tekken battle tuning director Jun Yasuda says, “You just look at the replay, and the computer tells you exactly what you’re doing wrong, and then it allows you to practice on the spot. It’s so much easier and low-effort compared to anything in the past.” Thanks to current-gen consoles, it’s also very responsive.
Tekken 8 launches on January 26th, 2024, but a free demo is out on December 14th for PS5 and December 21st on Xbox Series X/S and PS5. Stay tuned for more details, and in the meantime, check out our closed beta impressions here.
