Even if you've never watched any of his videos, chances are you'll be aware of the name MatPat. He's one of YouTube's oldest creators, having created The Game Theorists back in 2009, and he's been torturing Five Nights at Freddy's fans with ludicrous theory videos and predictions ever since. He was such a beloved member of the community that it even managed to get him a cameo in the recent Five Nights at Freddy's movie.
Unfortunately, it seems as though MatPat's YouTube career is coming to an end, as the creator announced that he will be hosting his last Game Theory episode on March 9 later this year. MatPat revealed this news in a recent video on The Game Theorists YouTube channel earlier today titled "Goodbye Internet", in which he lays out his reasons for leaving and explaining that new creators will be taking the reins.
When laying out his reasons for stepping back, MatPat claims that one of the biggest is so that he can spend more quality time with his family, having been "work first for over a decade". He explains that he misses being able to play games and talk with friends without thinking about content or what theories he could come up with.
He also explains that he'd like to leave The Game Theorists on a high note, and would rather not fade into obscurity like so many content creators of the past. He goes on to explain all the notable things he's done these past few years and how much impact he's had on other content creators, and decided that it's the legacy he wants to leave behind.
For me, and my journey in this place, I always wanted to go out on a high note. And when you stop and look at the last year, this has been the best year in the Theorist lifespan, no joke.
