3 Body Problem is already shaping up to be one of Netflix’s biggest shows ever, and its new trailer is fittingly epic. Released at the Consumer Electronics Show on Tuesday, the trailer gives us our best look yet at the series, shining more light on the plot for those that haven’t read the books on which it’s based.
The trailer lays out the series’ variety of competing mysteries. There’s a countdown clock that has appeared to certain people, a series of murders targeting the world’s top scientists, and a virtual reality game that’s tied to whatever is going on. Plus an unknown force that’s taking its toll on the entire planet.
The series is created by Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, as well as Alexander Woo. The show also features and stars like Benedict Wong and Eiza Gonzalez, as well as Game of Thrones veterans like John Bradley, Jonathan Pryce, and Liam Cunningham. The series is set to debut on March 21 on Netflix.
The series is based on The Three-Body Problem, a novel by Liu Cixin, which was originally published in 2008 in China. The book eventually made its way to the United States, winning the 2015 Hugo Award for Best Novel. The novel is the first entry in Cixin’s Remembrance of Earth’s Past series, which contains three books in total.
