The Xbox Game Pass catalog has just expanded to include Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun. This is the first March 2024 addition to Microsoft's subscription service, as well as the 28th title to reach Xbox Game Pass since the turn of the year.
Microsoft's subscription offering has, on average, received one Warhammergame per year since 2020. Half of those were based on Games Workshop's mainline fantasy franchise, while the rest were part of its sci-fi spin-off series Warhammer 40k. Prior to today, the latest of these additions to Xbox Game Pass was Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, whose PC version had a day-one release on the platform in November 2022, followed by the delayed console port in October of the following year.
The selection of Warhammer games on Xbox Game Pass now also includes Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun. Developed by British studio Auroch Digital, this hectic boomer shooter is less than a year old, having originally reached PC and consoles in May 2023. Warhammer 40k: Boltgun received mostly favorable reviews from critics and elicited an even warmer response from the fandom, as underlined by the fact that it nowadays boasts over 10,000 «Very Positive» Steam reviews.
The arrival of Boltgun doubles the number of Warhammer titles on Xbox Game Pass. The other games based on the popular IP that previously made its way to Microsoft's service have remained on it for at least a year. But Boltgun's stint on the platform may end up being even longer, not least because this release is published by Focus Entertainment. Namely, most of the titles that the French publisher brought to Xbox Game Pass in the past have stayed on the service for at least 18 months, as was the case with the likes of SnowRunner, GreedFall, and the two A Plague Tale games.
While Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun is the first March 2024 addition to Xbox Game Pass, it will be far from the last. Microsoft's content catalog has already confirmed to be adding four more titles over the course of the month: Lightyear Frontier
