Worldwalker Games, the developer behind the wonderful RPG Wildermyth, has completed active development on the game and is «going into hibernation for now». The studio says that while this does mean it must say farewell to many of its team members, previously announced plans to bring its tabletop-inspired title to PlayStation will be unaffected.
On Twitter, Worldwalker Games co-owner Nate Austin outlined what fans can expect moving forward. Austin says that this was always the plan following the release of Omenroad, the latest piece of DLC for Wildermyth. As an independent studio, Worldwalker is not answerable to investors and instead is entering a voluntary holding pattern of sorts, a level of frank honesty we don't often see in these sorts of stories.
If you didn't know, while many games (such as Baldur's Gate 3) have attempted to gamify tabletop rulesets like Dungeons and Dragons, Wildermyth instead tries simulating the satisfaction of a long-term campaign with familiar friends. Using procedurally added narrative elements, players will control a small group of aspiring heroes across multiple campaigns.
Their deeds and heroics, eventually becoming the stuff of myth and legend, can pop up in future campaigns, as can the characters themselves. Wildermyth enjoys Overwhelmingly Positive reviews on Steam and is sure to find a welcome home on PlayStation.
