WhenThe War Withinis out, Mythic+ changes are coming, with new affixes and more and the World of Warcraft community has already been giving lots of feedback.
In a new interview from WoWHead, WoW’s Morgan Day and Ion Hazzikostas discuss Mythic+, significant changes on the way, and why they are making all of these changes in the first place. The recently-announced affixes changes were the start of lots of feedback coming in, but also a continuation of changes the team has been making over time. If you’re a WoW player, you likely have an opinion one way or another about affixes, and you've probably seen the changes that have been done already and what's coming.
With The War Within beta having begun, Hazzikostas prepares us all for more changes. “We're looking to roll out a couple more pretty significant swings in how we approach Affixes and the Mythic+ system,” he says. Day also comments, noting that the announced changes were intended to be “things that felt more like a overarching rule change, like all trash in the dungeon behaves in this way or reacts in this way and you can plan for that really easily” and not surprising. Their design goals are not trying to be something along the lines of an ability or new mechanics. Something you can absorb quickly that also adds variety. Variety is one f the goals that the WoW team has been talking about for a while now.
They continue discussing affixes, and the range of feedback on them, and reiterate that the right answer isn't to just completely remove them, despite some of the controversies. the team is also discussing potential options to allow players who want to focus on competitive optimization and predictability that will reduce randomness. Blizzard will keep an eye on what the outcome is and will continue keeping an eye on it and potentially revisit these changes in the future to make sure they are working with those goals in mind.
