The Wheel of Time season 2 has cast Ayoola Smart, previously known for her recurring role on Killing Eve, as the new character Aviendha. Filming of the show's second season has been long underway, having begun in July 2021 in Prague with filming in Morocco currently underway. The show was renewed for a second season in May of 2021, long before the series premiere on November 19, 2021.
The Wheel of Time follows Moiraine, a member of the Aes Sedai who can channel the One Power, and her quest to find the Dragon Reborn, a powerful individual prophesied to save the world or destroy it. Based on a series of novels by Robert Jordan, the series covered the events of the first book The Eye of the World in the first season. However, The Wheel of Time TV series might go in a different direction than the events depicted in the books.

According to Amazon Studios, the announcement came from a virtual panel at JodanCon 2022, where showrunner Rafe Judkins reveals Smart's casting. Smart is slated to play Aviendha, Maiden of the Spear who becomes the paramour of Rand al'Thor, one of the individuals suspected of being the Dragon Reborn. Little else is known about Smart's role or whether she's started filming for the project yet, or how her part will shape the second season's narrative.
The Wheel of Time's first season was rough around the edges, as would be any series that tries to introduce a fantasy world to a broad audience.
