Warning: SPOILERS for Star Trek: Picard Season 2's Finale — «Farewell»
In Star Trek: Picard season 2's finale, Cristobal Rios' (Santiago Cabrera) decision to remain in the 21st century is a break in Star Trek's established canon. Rios played a major role in how Jean-Luc Picard's (Patrick Stewart) motley crew restored the timeline back on its proper course. It was Chris who heroically destroyed the drones Dr. Adam Soong (Brent Spiner) planned to use to shoot down the Europa Mission piloted by Renée Picard (Penelope Mitchell). Indeed, Chris' rationale is that no matter what avenue he tried — as part of Starfleet or outside of it as captain of La Sirena — he didn't really fit in the future. Rios was chasing a happy life that eluded him in the future, but he miraculously found it with Teresa and Ricardo in 2024 Los Angeles. Certainly, none of Rios' closest friends could fault him for wanting to be with the woman he loves.
