Star Trek: Picard star Jeri Ryan said she hadn't planned on returning to her role of Seven of Nine after the ending of Star Trek: Voyager. Ryan joined Voyager in 1997 and played the character for the latter four seasons of the show's run, becoming a fan favorite in the process. She returned to the character in the first season of Star Trek: Picard, becoming a series regular in season 2.
Star Trek: Picard follows Star Trek: The Next Generation protagonist Jean-Luc Picard as he's called out of retirement on a new adventure. Seven of Nine appears in the series over twenty years after the events of Voyager, having adjusted more fully to her human form after being rescued from the Borg. Seven of Nine's role in Star Trek: Picard sees her joining the vigilante group the Fenris Rangers after being disallowed from joining Starfleet due to her Borg implants.

When asked by The Hollywood Reporter, Ryan reveals that she never thought she'd return to the character after the ending of Voyager. She elaborates by saying that she thought the character's story was complete at the end of Voyager and that she had said goodbye to her. She also says she was still hesitant when she signed up for Star Trek: Picard season 1, but then changed her mind after she started seeing completed scripts. Read her quote below:
