Patrick Stewart has a touching reaction to the emotional scene between Jean-Luc and Q in Star Trek: Picard. First appearing as the character of Jean-Luc Picard over 30 years ago in Star Trek: The Next Generation, Stewart has since become a staple of the beloved franchise. After a number of years away from Star Trek, Picard is back once more in Star Trek: Picard, a Paramount+ series that first aired in 2020.
Star Trek: Picard season 2 has spent more time delving into Picard's past, which includes the return of Q (John de Lancie), who was also first introduced in Star Trek: The Next Generation as an omnipotent being capable of manipulating the universe. Although initially unveiled as an antagonist in the original show, Q has come to develop a sense of camaraderie with Picard, a theme that was further explored in the later episodes of Star Trek: Picard's second season. Season two sees Q send Picard on a time-traveling journey back to Earth in 2024 and, in episode 10, the finale, the two characters share a tender and emotional goodbye before Q's existence expires.
