Flipkart, just like most other brands, on the occasion of Women’s Day came up with posts and messages to capitalise on the event. However, due to an ill-thought campaign design, Flipkart’s Women’s Day messages were received with a lot of backlash on social media, with some of them questioning Flipkart about the reason to put out discriminatory messages. While SMS messages could not be recalled, Flipkart released an apology statement on social media for those messages.
Along with a big banner stating “We are Sorry”, Flipkart wrote the following on its social media channels, “We messed up and we are sorry. We did not intend to hurt anyone's sentiments and apologise for the Women's Day message shared earlier.”
Flipkart’s promotional messages on the occasion of Women’s Day were found to be sexist and tone-deaf by many. Most of the messages tried to sells kitchen appliances and relate to age-old beliefs, which irked a couple of users. Hence, they took to Twitter and other social media platforms to express their anger.
While it was insensitive to send out such messages from a household brand like Flipkart, it was nice to see them ask for apologies on the public platform.
Here are a couple of tweets from disgruntled consumers who were offended by Flipkart’s messages and shared their pain.
