Breath of the Wild landed on the Nintendo Switch with a massive splash thanks — in part — to its revolutionary approach to open-world design, simple but satisfying gameplay, and breathtaking art style. Nintendo's hybrid console is significantly weaker than those offered by its competitors Sony and Microsoft, but Breath of the Wild manages to avoid looking cheap or rough around the edges thanks to the use of a cel-shaded aesthetic and a spectacular lighting system that brought the world's many regions to life. Because of this more simplified approach to graphics, many of the game's areas are brightly colored, with a greater focus on luminosity and exaggerated details than realism. While this style is central to the game's overall tone, some tech-savvy fans have managed to make the game a bit more visually impressive with tweaks like the Breath of the Wild ray-tracing mod.

It looks like a similar mod has been downloaded and used by Redditor Waikuteru, as they shared some BOTW screenshots that appear a bit altered. The screenshots are of the Eldin region, a volcanic zone that is home to Death Mountain and the Gorons. Images of the darkened, menacing landscape feature subjects like broken-down Guardians and Shrines, with Death Mountain visible in all the shots.
