The developers of Warframe announced on their Forum that an attempt at soft launching the game’s Cross Platform Save feature was quietly rolled out to Founder-tier players, who paid for high-tier early-access rewards during the game’s early days. However, it didn’t seem to go as planned, and it was quickly rolled back.
“[W]e did a soft and silent launch for Founders without announcement and discovered a major issue with Clan handoff, so we've paused further action,” developer CoreyOnline explained. “We will update you on our Socials, Forums, and Red Text on Monday for next steps. We apologize, but we don't want to leave this over the weekend.”
Warframe is available for all major gaming platforms—Xbox One and Seriex X/S, Playstations 4 and 5, the Nintendo Switch, and Microsoft Windows—with cross-platform play implemented since 2022. However, players needed accounts for each individual platform.
According to a new official FAQ , the new Cross Platform Save system seems to have two primary functions: “Account Merging” and “Account Linking.” Merging brings together all your inventory and resources under one solitary account, while Linking designates a single account as a “Primary Account” to use over multiple platforms and overrides all other accounts’ progress and resources. The Merge will only be available for a limited time, while Linking will be perpetually available. (Accounts part of a past Account Migration are ineligible, and some currency bought on certain platforms is restricted or shared.)
Cross Platform Save for Warframe was announced for an early 2024 launch, meaning this soft-launch testing for the smaller group of players fits it well within that time frame.
