Now, Larian has shed some more light on the situation, saying that it's all caused by an issue with Xbox firmware. Since the problem is unlikely to be fixed anytime soon, with workers off for the holidays, Larian suggests an unconventional fix that might keep your save files safe, backing them up in case they're corrupted on the Xbox itself.
"We’re aware that there is a save issue on Xbox that continues to linger throughout the holidays," says Larian, further explaining the ongoing bug. "It occurs when exiting the game after saving. The game thinks the save was successful but due to a firmware issue, the save file is not fully committed to disk yet."
Larian makes it clear that Microsoft is aware of the issue, suggesting that the ball is in the gaming giant's court to deal with this now. However, the developer adds that it might take "a while" for the bug to be addressed. In the meantime, it recommends the following steps be taken to keep save files safe.
This won't stop the firmware bug from occurring, but it should back up your saves if it happens, potentially saving you hours of progress.
Xbox has shared its own fixes, which might still be worth a shot.
