Playing Baldur's Gate 3 on Xbox is a bit risky right now. You might lose your entire save file at the drop of a hat, despite Larian Studios' attempts to fix the issue. That's because it's a firmware problem to do with the console itself, meaning that Microsoft is the one who has to sort it out. Luckily, a fix is imminent.
Hotfix number 16 was just released, tidying up a litany of bugs and making Cazador harder... again. While there's still no mention of the save wipes on Xbox, Vincke quote retweeted the patch notes to update players on the whole losing-your-progress problem, revealing that Microsoft has finally identified the cause.

It's been nearly a month since the save wipe glitch first cropped up, and just over a month since Baldur's Gate 3 was shadowdropped on Xbox. You need to create a Larian account and log in on your Xbox. Once that's done, enable cross-platform saves in Baldur's Gate 3 and your progress will be stored in the cloud. That means that, if Xbox accidentally wipes your campaign, you can recover it and keep chugging along. You don't need Baldur's Gate 3 on PlayStation or PC for this to work - just enabling the option will do it.
