Minecraft Legends was released in April last year, and while it didn't blow anyone away, it was a neat little strategy game that complimented the Minecraft series fairly well by offering a different experience for longtime fans. However, it seems as though it may not have had the staying power that Mojang wanted it to have, as the studio has announced that the title won't be getting any more content updates after less than a year on store shelves.
This was announced via a blog post on the official Minecraft website earlier today, stating that the game has been improved and tweaked enough thanks to feedback from players and that the studio will be taking "a step back from development." Mojang goes on to explain that no more new content will be added following the Snow vs Snouts update, and that the version of Minecraft Legends we have now is the one we're stuck with.
Mojang's announcement makes it seem like the step away from development was always going to be the case, but it's surprising that a Minecraft game of all things will no longer be supported with fresh content drops after less than a year in the hands of players. Then again, it may not be too surprising if you take a look at the game's player numbers on Steam.
At the time of writing, there are only 23 people currently playing Minecraft Legends, with a similarly dismal 24-hour player peak of just 31, and the game's daily count has struggled to crack the 100 player mark ever since June, just two months after release. In fact, Minecraft Dungeons currently has more than ten times the players that Legends does on Steam, a game that launched a little over three and a half years ago.
