Even though Venom has proven to be an incredibly powerful entity even on a cosmic scale, he, and the rest of the Klyntar race, suffer from two detrimental weaknesses–ones that are directly linked to his species’ origin.
The Venom symbiote was introduced in Secret Wars as an all-new alien costume worn by Spider-Man, but it wasn’t until Spider-Man brings the suit to Mr. Fantastic that he discovers it is actually alive. After some time sporting the new look, Spider-Man removes the outfit by using the assaulting sound vibrations created by a church bell, making the symbiote leave his body and find a different host–Eddie Brock. While bonded with Brock, Venom truly takes form and proceeds to hunt Spider-Man as both Eddie Brock and the symbiote hate him for seperate, yet equally as passionate, reasons. While he eventually becomes Spider-Man’s ally, the web-slinger battles the villain on many occasions, and throughout that time discovers sound isn’t the only thing that repels Venom as he learns that fire also does the trick rather nicely. Though Venom has other weaknesses like being bonded to a zombie, fire and sound are easily the two most famous.
