A massive Steam update to the desktop client has rolled out a new look just in time for summer. While we still have a couple of weeks to wait for the big summer Steam sale, Valve is giving its leading PC gaming platform a lovely overhaul with a bunch of new features. The spruced-up Steam client should make finding and playing the best PC games an even more straightforward and enjoyable experience.
You’ve probably already noticed that Steam looks a little different if you booted it up, but Valve has made a ton of improvements under the hood that you might not spot at first. The most exciting news for me is the improved Steam overlay – along with a revamped control toolbar and an improved web browser, the new notes feature is something I’m extremely happy about.
You’ll be able to make text-based notes with full formatting options, and then pin them to your screen while playing, making them perfect for keeping to-do lists, noting down which items you’re looking for in Elden Ring, or keeping track of clues for a puzzle you’re solving. You can adjust the opacity so they don’t get too in the way, and they’ll all be saved to the cloud by game so you can easily access them wherever you are.
As someone who already has a folder filled with notepad docs for various games, I’m delighted to have the option to more conveniently organize them by game and pop them on top of my game easily. Also, whoever at Valve made the footage for this update, I see you using Hollow Knight and I appreciate you; hopefully we get that Silksong release date soon.
