Some US retailers have started selling the new PlayStation 5 ‘Slim’ console.
Sony had officially said the console would launch in the US in November, before rolling out elsewhere over the following months, although it hasn’t communicated a specific release date.
Indeed, while its own PlayStation Direct store is currently only selling the launch PS5, the new model has been made available to purchase online at retailers including Dell and Walmart.
Dell is currently offering the new PS5 console bundled with a copy of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 for $499.99. Walmart was selling the same bundle for $499 as part of its early Black Friday deals, but it’s currently out of stock.
Sony also looks set to bundle the new PS5 console with a copy of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 for $499.99 to coincide with the game’s release this Friday.
Like the PS5 model that launched in November 2020, the new one will be available in standard and Digital editions.
According to Sony, the new PS5 console has been reduced in volume by more than 30%, and in weight by 18% and 24% respectively compared to the current model.
The new design features four separate cover panels, with the top portion in a glossy look, while the bottom remains in matte.
The recommended retail prices for the new PS5 model, which comes with 1TB storage for both editions, are as follows:
This represents a $50 increase in price for the Digital Edition in the US.
Unlike the current model, those who purchase the PS5 Digital Edition will be able to add a Blu-ray disc drive later, as it will also be sold separately for $79.99 / €119.99 / £99.99.
A horizontal stand will be included with the new PS5 model. Also, a new Vertical Stand compatible with all PS5 models will be sold separately for $29.99 /
