Baldur’s Gate 3 was released in August to widespread critical acclaim, with both the PC and PS5 versions currently sitting on a Metacritic score of 96.
The game is still set to be released on Xbox Series X and S by the end of 2023. Larian said on Wednesday that it would be announcing the Xbox version’s release date during The Game Awards on December 7.
An Xbox release was held back from release and was at one point looking unlikely to release until 2024, seemingly due to the apparent belief that Microsoft required full feature parity between the Xbox Series X and Series X versions.
This was proving to be a sticking point for Larian, because it was struggling to get the game’s co-op mode running on the less powerful Series S hardware to a level that it was happy with.
However, after Xbox boss Phil Spencer stated thatfeature parity wasn’t actually a requirement, Larian founder and CEO Swev Vincke posted on Twitter that a solution had been found that would allow the game to be released on Xbox Series X and Series S this year.
