By the time players in learn flying, a few opportunities to view Hogwarts Castle and the surrounding valley from the sky in order to showcase the grandeur of the map have already passed. While brooms aren't as fast as those in the movies since the game is set in the past, they still make travel easier. However, the point during which the player learns to ride a broom seems to be later in the game than it should be.
The main quests for aren't limited to exploring the mystery of the player's ability to use Ancient Magic or Ranrok's schemes. As players pick up side quests and work to collect their field guide pages, they'll be traveling across the map fairly often. While Floo Flames are useful, players need to visit their locations before being able to quick travel using the flames, and in that case, being able to fly saves a lot more time versus moving on foot.

The delayed timing of Flying Class could have been done in order to force players to acquaint themselves with the area of Hogwarts Castle and Hogsmeade before opening the map with easier, faster forms of travel. However, it seems like a skill that Professor Fig should have taught the player before the school year started, especially since other students comment that Flying Class is mostly for beginners. Additionally, with Ranrok and Rookwood being after the player, learning to fly earlier in the game makes sense story-wise for since the player would have more escape options when in danger.
Story choices in can feel lackluster with the absence of consequences for actions like using dark magic, and another missed opportunity is having Professor Fig and the player use brooms to finish
