The next BlackBerry isn't a BlackBerry at all, but man, it really looks like one. Unihertz today unveiled its latest QWERTY-keyboarded phone, the Titan Slim, which looks a lot like a BlackBerry Key2 LE. Like, a lot a lot.
I've written about Unihertz before. With the Titan and Titan Pocket, it's the last phone maker serving the US with physical-QWERTY-keyboarded phones. In general, Unihertz likes to serve small niche markets that have passionate followers but not enough of them for a mainstream product. They have their QWERTY keyboard devices, and also the Jelly 2, the smallest viable smartphone in the US.
The Titan Slim is "coming soon to Kickstarter," but it's not a crowdfunded product. Unihertz has used Kickstarter as a presales platform for years, making sure there are enough customers out there for each one of its oddball phones to ensure viability.
Unihertz hasn't released any official specs for the Titan Slim yet, but this Reddit thread has some. This isn't a going to be a super-high-end phone; like Unihertz's other products, it'll be a lower-cost model sold on the strength of its unique feature, the keyboard. So you're going to supposedly have a 4.3-inch, 720p screen; Android 11; a 48-megapixel camera; and a workaday, but unimpressive MediaTek processor. We don't know what the price is, but I think it will be under $400.
Honestly, this phone looks so much like the BlackBerry Key2 LE that I wonder if Unihertz just took over that production line. I mean, look at the Key2 LE here, and then look at the Titan Slim. The keyboard layout is slightly different, but they're very similar.
